LEONARD P. KUESTER
Leonard Paul Kuester, the son of Bernard and Hulda (Schmith) Kuester was born February 28, 1942 in LeMars, Iowa. He received his education in Paullina graduating from Paullina High School in 1960. He served his country in the U.S. Army from December 20, 1963 until his discharge on December 19, 1969. After his discharge he returned to the Paullina area and on July 15, 1976, he was united in marriage to Carol Reimers in Colorado Springs, Colorado. After their marriage the couple settled in Calumet, Iowa. Leonard worked for C-S Agrow Service in Calumet for many years never really retiring and also enjoyed custom farming. The couple also operated Kuester’s Kove in Calumet for eight years. His wife preceded him in death on May 9, 2000 in Sioux City, Iowa. Leonard remained in Calumet until recently moving to Sutherland, Iowa. He passed away on Friday, December 27, 2013 at the Prairie View Retirement Home in Sanborn, Iowa reaching the age of 71 years, 9 months and 29 days.
He was a member of the Sutherland American Legion Post # 152, had served on the Calumet City Council for 15 years. In July of 2012, he was instrumental in having the Civil War cannon restored that sits in the Calumet City Park.
He leaves to cherish his memory step children, Denise (Jim) Nicholson of Ida Grove, Iowa; Todd Davis of Great Falls, Montana; Deb (fiancé, Steve Schomaker) Shatto of Estherville, Iowa; two children, Kurt Kuester of LeMars, Iowa and Kim Kuester of Love Park, Illinois; grandchildren, Ryan, Dylan, Adam, Caleb, Kelsey and Seth; step granddaughter, Stacy; a great grandchild, Brooklyn; one sister, Karen Buren of Sanborn, Iowa; also nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol; his parents, Ben and Hulda; brother-in-law, Gerald Buren; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Delores and Herman Gerstandt and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Duane and Vi Reimers.
