LELA M. MOLMEN
Lelia “Lela” Hannah Marie Molmen, the daughter of Ernest Carl and Cena Fredericka (Nanninga) Vander Hamm, was born November 7, 1913 in Ireton, IA. She attended school in Ireton and graduated from the Ireton High School. She also graduated from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, IA and taught in rural schools in Sioux County. Lela was united in marriage to Melvin H. Molmen on July 17, 1939, in Okoboji, IA. The couple lived in Venice and Los Angeles, CA, later moving to Minneapolis, MN. After a few years they moved back to Sheldon to join Melvin’s father as a partner in Molmen Dairy. After selling to blue Bunny they moved back to Minneapolis. Lela worked as an assistant supervisor for Sears Drapery work room. In 1979, they moved back to Sheldon to retire and in 2003, they moved into the Fieldcrest Assisted Living in Sheldon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin on August 9, 2006. Lela passed away on Saturday, September 18, 2010, at the Sanford Health Center Senior Care in Sheldon, reaching the age of 96 years, 10 months and 11 days.
She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Sheldon; she taught Sunday school and directed the Junior Choir for years. She enjoyed sewing, hiking, traveling and cards.
Lela is survived by her daughter and her husband, Carol and Ernest Winter of Boyden, IA; three granddaughters and their spouses, Jeanette and Todd Nance of Milford, IA; Brenda and Ray Zenk of LeMars, Ia; Beverly and Jack Rolfes of Orange City, IA; six great-grandchildren, Wade and his wife, Karen Summers, Lindsey Lux, Alyssa, Nicole and Austin Rolfes and Chad Zenk; a sister, Marcella Carl of Sanborn, IA; a brother-in-law, Clarence and his wife, Hazel Molmen of Denton, TX; two sisters-in-law, Elaine and her husband, John Bancroft of California and Shirley Hammer of Kansas City, MO; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents; three sisters, Maxine Boom, Neva Jean Brunk and Luella Schultz and a brother-in-law, Carl Hammer.
