     LaVonne Hammond, age 82, of rural Sheldon, Iowa passed away on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at the Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Her Graveside Service will be at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, August 14, 2024 at the Greenwood Cemetery at Matlock, Iowa with Rev. Kevin Gingerich ~ officiating.

     Visitation with the family present will be from 4:00 ~ 6:00 P.M. on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon, Iowa.

Arrangements are the care of the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home – Sheldon.

Lavonne E. Hammond

 Lavonne Emma Lilly Hammond the daughter of John and Rosalie (Meyners) Oldenkamp was born July 2, 1942 in Hull, Iowa. She graduated from high school at Maurice-Orange City High School. On August 8, 1972, she was united in marriage to Walter Hammond in Jellico, Tennessee. After their marriage the couple moved to Matlock, where they purchased their family home. For 24 years before Lavonne’s retirement, she was employed at Siouxland Optical. Her retirement years were spent in Matlock with her husband, Walter. She passed away on Thursday, August 8, 2024 at the Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, reaching the age of 82 years, 1 month and 6 days.

 She is survived by her husband, Walter of rural Sheldon, Iowa; a daughter, Tammy; a son, Joel; step daughter, Joanie and step son, Lynn also grandchildren; and great grandchildren; two brothers, Ron Oldenkamp of Ashton, Iowa and Larry Oldenkamp of Sacramento, California; a sister, Marolyn Van Middendorp of Sibley, Iowa also other relatives and friends.

 She was preceded in death by her parents.
