KENNETH J. KOOB
Kenneth was born May 12th, 1944 in LeMars, Iowa. He was the son of the late Cyril and Malinda (Frerichs) Koob of Remsen, Iowa. He graduated from Central High School in Sioux City, Iowa. He enlisted in the Airforce in 1961, serving in the Airpolice. He was honorably discharged in 1964. Ken was united in marriage to Johanna Jungers on June 26, 1965 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Hospers, Iowa and the couple made their home in Sioux City, Iowa.
His career was in aviation and had acquired several pilot licenses over the years. In 1968, his first solo flight was at Martin’s Flying Service in South Sioux City, NE. Upon completion of his flight training, Ken became a flight instructor for Martin’s Flying Service. In 1981, Ken received his mechanic, airframe, powerplant and spraying licenses. In 1985, he received his flight instrument rating for single and multiengine aircrafts. He also received his commercial license in 1986. Upon completion of his commercial license, Ken worked for General Aviation of Omaha, NE. In February of 1987, he was promoted to Airline Captain. Due to a heart attack and stroke this accomplishment was shortened.
Ken enjoyed photography, music and his family. He was a member of Cathedral Catholic Church, Sioux City, Iowa. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council NO. 5660.
He is survived by his wife, Johanna; two sons, one daughter and eight grandchildren. James and Monique Koob of Sioux City and their children, Megan, Eric and Isabell; Timothy and Stacey Koob of Sioux City and their children, Austin and Mackenzie; Chad and Brenda Fischer of Sioux City and their children, Michael, Molly and Mitchell.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Gregory; his parents, Cyril and Malinda Koob and one brother, Raymond.
