KATHRYN L. BROCKMANN
Kathryn Lucille Brockmann, the daughter of Chels and Charlotte “Lottie” (Grauer) Metcalf, was born November 18, 1913 in Marcus, Iowa. She attended country school near Marcus, later moving with her parents to Donaldson, Minnesota, where she continued her education. The family later returned to Marcus, where she graduated from the Marcus High School in 1932. On February 20, 1938, she was united in marriage to Erwin Brockmann in Sutherland, Iowa. After their marriage the couple settled on a farm southeast of Germantown, where they farmed for 50 years. They also owned and operated Brockmann’s Fryers, a poultry processing operation. The couple moved to Paullina in 1987. Her husband preceded her in death on February 27, 1992 in Spencer, Iowa. Kathryn moved into the Paullina Care Center on March 4, 1998. She passed away on Tuesday, March 15, 2005 at the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa, reaching the age of 91 years, 3 months and 27 days. She was baptized at the Methodist Church in Marcus and later confirmed on March 5, of 1939 at St. John Lutheran Church in Germantown, where she currently was a member. She enjoyed cooking for her children and grandchildren, singing and was known for her readings that she recited for various organizations. Kathryn leaves to cherish her memories two sons and their wives, Charles and Linda Brockmann of Paullina, IA; Don and Becky Brockmann of Hartley, IA; also five grandchildren, John and Lisa Brockmann of Palatine, IL; Sue and Greg Overturf of Mount Pleasant, IA; Brenda Brockmann of West Des Moines, IA; Julie and Sharon Brockmann both of Mason City, IA; one great-granddaughter, Grace Marie Brockmann of Palatine, IL; and other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a brother, Glenn Metcalf; and a sister, Helen Meyer.
