Services for Kathryn H. Groendyke, age 103, of Sheldon formerly of Sanborn who passed away on Thursday, November 5, 2020 at Sanford Senior Care in Sheldon. Her funeral service will be 1030 A.M. Monday, November 9, 2020 at First Reformed Church in Sanborn with Pastor Paul Van Maaren ~ officiating
Burial will be at Roseland Cemetery in Sanborn.
Visitation will be after 2 P.M. on Sunday, November 8, 2020 with family present from 3 – 5 P.M. all at the church.
Masks will be required for both the visitation and funeral service. Social distancing guidelines will also be followed.
The funeral service will be uploaded to the tribute page on our website Monday afternoon for viewing.

KATHRYN H. GROENDYKE
Kathryn H. Groendyke, the daughter of Leendert and Gertrude (Van Roekel) Van Tol was born on August 22, 1917 in Doon, Iowa. She attended Doon Christian School through the 8th grade. She married Cornelius “Neal” Groendyke on February 23, 1941 at the Christian Reformed Church in Bigelow, Minnesota. After their marriage the couple lived in Boyden, Iowa and Lincoln, Nebraska. They then made their home in Sanborn, Iowa where the couple farmed for many years. From 1966 until her retirement in 2001, Kate worked as a Certified Nurse’s Aide at Prairie View Home in Sanborn. Neal preceded Kate in death on February 12, 1993. She remained in Sanborn until she moved to Sanford Senior Care in April of 2017. Kate passed away on Thursday, November 5, 2020 reaching the age of 103 years, 2 months and 13 days.
Kate was an active member of First Reformed Church in Sanborn. She taught Sunday school, catechism, was a Girls League leader and a member of Ladies Aide. She enjoyed her coffee fellowship with family and friends, gardening, games, word searches and bingo. Her favorite enjoyment was spending time with her family.
Left to cherish her memory are her two sons and their spouses, Keith and Judy of Sanborn, Iowa and Kevin and Ever of Selma, Texas; seven grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Kate was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three great-grandchildren, Olivia Asia Bicknell, Bria Kaye and Braxton Keith Groendyke; five brothers, Mynard, William, Cornelius I, Cornelius II and Henry Van Tol; four sisters, Della Lems, Gertrude Van Bemmel, Helen Faber and Grace Steensma.
