KATHLEEN J. BOER
Kathleen Jean Boer, the daughter of Sam and Annette (Rosenboom) Altena was born on a farm in Sioux County, near Orange City, Iowa. She attended a country school for one year in Sioux County, and then moved with her parents to Sheldon, where she finished her education. After completing her education Kathleen stayed at home to help raise her younger brother and sisters. She then moved to Chicago, Illinois to live with her aunt and help raise her children. On October 20, 1952, she was united in marriage to Rudy E. Boer in Sheldon, Iowa. After their marriage the couple made their home in Sheldon. The children all remember pitching in at her job cleaning the Bethel Reformed Church. She worked at HyVee in the meat department for 15 years, where she enjoyed talking with the customers and meeting new people. Kathleen passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2006 at her residence in Sheldon, Iowa, reaching the age of 71 years, 7 months and 6 days.
She was a member of the Cross Roads Evangelical Free Church in Sheldon and Kathleen had also taught Sunday school for many years. She enjoyed gardening, bird watching, baking and babysitting her grandchildren.
Kathleen leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 53 years, Rudy of Sheldon; and their four children, Alan and his wife, Ruth Boer of Spirit Lake, Iowa; Pam and her husband, Dale Burns of Spicer, Minnesota; Dawn Hiserote and her friend, Dennis McKee of Lakefield, Minnesota; Nadine and her husband, Derrick Petersen of Sibley, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Shane and Dustin Boer; Jennifer Affeldt and Brandon Burns; Melissa and her husband, Aaron Boone; Cody and Dalton Petersen; four great-grandchildren, Angel, Samantha, Kloey and Noah; a brother and his wife, Dennis and Pat Altena of Apple Valley, California; a sister and her husband, Diane and Leon “Buddy” Rauls of Pine Bluff, Arkansas; a half-brother, Don; a half-sister, Sandy; a step-brother, Jim and a step-sister, Mary Jo; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Marlene Bonner (Van Dyke).
