KAREN L. GRIGGS
Karen L. Griggs, the daughter of Ernest and Thelma (Forrest) Mortley, was born October 28, 1936 in Newton, Iowa. She attended school in Newton and graduated from Newton High School in 1955. She was united in marriage to Ronald Gale Griggs on June 17, 1955 in Newton. After their marriage the couple lived in Newton and Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Kearney, Nebraska; Pipestone and Edgerton, Minnesota before moving to Sheldon, Iowa in 1975. Karen worked at the Sheldon Mail-Sun and Review, from 1976 until her retirement in 1997. She was a volunteer at the Village Treasure Chest for many years and she was one of the coordinators of the Adopted a Family Program in Sheldon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald on August 10, 2004. Karen remained in her home until passing away on Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at the Sanford Medical Center in Sheldon.
She was a member of the Eagles Club. She enjoyed fishing, going to garage sales, spending her time at the Sand Bar Beach Resort in Spirit Lake since 1982. She also loved her cat, Ponce.
Karen leaves to cherish her memory her two children and their spouses, Jeffery and Paula Griggs of Milo, Iowa; Cari and Kelly McPartland of Ames, Iowa; a daughter-in-law, Anita (Griggs) Gray of Farmington, Missouri; four grandchildren, Matthew Griggs; Tracy and her husband, Hugh Howe; Amanda and her husband, J. Farrell and Eric Griggs; three great-grandchildren, Madison and Jalen Howe and Connor Farrell; a brother, Jack and his wife, Margie Mortley of Albuquerque, New Mexico; a brother-in-law, Wes Pohorsky of Keokuk, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Bonnie Mortley of Tacoma, Washington; other survivors include her special neighbors, Jim, Gayla, Megan, Chelsea and Jamie Clark; and all their Sand Bar Beach Resort Family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, Mark Griggs; a brother, Gene Mortley; a sister, Marilyn Pohorsky; and her In-laws, Oliver and Gladys Griggs.
