JUNE A. HUGHES

June Ardette Hughes, the daughter of Charles and Lilla (Petersen) Johnson was born May 1, 1923 near Primghar, Iowa. She attended school in Gaza, country school at Highland # 3 and later graduated from Gaza High School in 1940. She went on to attend NBT Business School in Sioux City. On December 27, 1946, she was united in marriage to Rodney W. Hughes in Primghar, Iowa. After their marriage the couple farmed in the Primghar area until 1964 when they moved to Primghar. June was employed at the O’Brien County Welfare Department Office of Price Administration Rationing Board and for 25 years before her retirement in 1991, she was the Secretary for the Primghar Superintendent of Schools. Her husband preceded her in death on June 5, 1990 in Primghar. June’s retirement years were spent in Primghar. She moved to the Primghar Care Center in December of 2006. She passed away at the care center on Sunday February 27, 2011 reaching the age of 87 years, 9 months and 26 days.
She was a member of the United Church of Primghar and a long time member of the Rebecca Lodge in Primghar. She enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, playing cards and knitting.
June leaves to cherish her memory her three children, Linda Wagenaar and her special friend, Paul Schueller of Primghar, Charles and his wife, Jackie Hughes of Paullina and Lee-Ann and her husband, John Humenik of Gainesville, Florida; five grandchildren, Jason and his wife, Amy Wagenaar, Jodi Wohlert, Jeff Wagenaar, Chas and his wife, Shishonee Hughes and Heather and her husband, Jon Rottink; 10 great-grandchildren; Haley and Dalton Wagenaar, Cole Carter, and Taylor Wohlert, Quinn and Blaine Wagenaar, Charles and Caden Hughes and Elliana Rottink; one brother and his wife, Lee “Bud” Johnson and Lois Tjossem of Primghar and one sister, Lois Crawford of Macomb, Illinois; also other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
