JULIE D. JOHANNSEN
Julie Deanna Johannsen, the daughter of Carlyle and Verdetta (Houchins) Peterson was born February 23, 1949 in Ticonic, Iowa. She graduated from Marcus High School in 1967. She received a degree from Iowa Lakes Community College and later Wayne State College. On May 6, 1972, she was united in marriage to Ronald Johannsen in Marcus, Iowa. Julie taught school at Westfield, Iowa for two years then Ron and Julie moved to Primghar, Iowa to farm. Julie resumed teaching at Primghar and South OBrien schools until retiring after teaching more than thirty years, primarily third grade. Julie fulfilled a childhood dream of being a teacher. Julie enjoyed flowers. She was Flower Superintendent at the OBrien County Fair for many years. The couple enjoyed traveling especially their trips to Port Aransas, Texas, Door County, Wisconsin, Branson, Missouri, the Black Hills and Colorado. Julie was an avid Minnesota Twins fan.
She was an active member of the United Church of Primghar and also actively served as a Pastors wife at Silver Creek and Galva United Methodist Church for seven years. Julie loved her 8 grandchildren and Christmas was her favorite time of year. She passed away on Sunday, December 11, 2016 at the Baum-Harmon Mercy Hospital in Primghar after nearly a four-year battle with melanoma reaching the age of 67 years, 9 months and 18 days.
Julies memory will be cherished by her husband of 44 years, Ronald of Paullina, Iowa; two children, Jessica (Jake) Espenmiller of Overland Park, Kansas and Pete (Amy) Johannsen of Altoona, Iowa; eight grandchildren, JD, Anna, Ben, Adam and Cece Espenmiller and Ava, Lucas and Maya Johannsen; her mother, Verdetta Peterson of Marcus, Iowa; two sisters, Penny (Robert) Jones of Sloan, Iowa and Vickie (Clark) Rainboth of Marcus, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Jane (Stan) Schwartz of Primghar, Iowa; also nieces nephews and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Carlyle Peterson.
