JOHN W. VAN MEETEREN

John Walter Van Meeteren, the son of Marinus and Gertie (Peters) Van Meeteren was born August 3, 1920 in O’Brien County, Iowa. He received his education in country school. He began farming with his father and later farmed for himself. For many years he had made his home with his sisters Hattie and Jeanette on the farm. While doing the grain farming he also had a herd of Brown Swiss cows for milking and later as stock cows. John retired and continued to make his home on the farm until entering the Good Samaritan Home in George in 2005 and later transferring to the Prairie View Manor in Sanborn in April in 2006. While at the Manor he still enjoyed his visits to the farm. He transferred to the Prairie View Retirement Home in October of 2010. He passed away at Prairie View on Friday November 26, 2010 reaching the age of 90 years 3 months and 23 days.
John is survived by a sister Hattie Van Meeteren of Sanborn and one brother William Van Meeteren of Sheldon as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers Nick, Christian, Morris and one sister, Jeanette.
