John W. “Jack” Ginger
John Warren “Jack” Ginger the son of William and Lulu (Flucker) Ginger was born August 26, 1923 in Hot Springs, South Dakota. He moved to the Paullina, Iowa area when he was three years old and started school at the age of four in Paullina. The family lived for several years in the Paullina area until moving to a farm west of Gaza. Jack graduated from Gaza High School in 1940. On November 9, 1946 he was united in marriage to Delores Horstmann. The couple were blessed with three children Larry, Rick and Laurie. They lived on the Ginger farm until March of 1947 when they moved to a farm three miles east and one and one fourth miles south of Primghar. The couple farmed there for many years where Jack enjoyed farming and feeding cattle. The couple moved into their new home in Primghar in 1982 . Jack passed away on Thursday December 23, 2010 at the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City reaching the age of 87 years 3 months and 27 days.
He was an active member of the United Church of Primghar, and serving as a trustee. He was a former director of the Producers Co-op in Gaza, director of the O’Brien County Cattleman’s Association, the O’Brien County Extension Board and was a 4-H leader. Jack was an avid horse man He was proud that his father started polo around northwest Iowa .He was too young to play polo but he was able to ride a polo pony to the field in Paullina and back home again. He was a member of the Town & Country Saddle Club plus several other horse clubs. He enjoyed playing cards and golfing.
Jack is survived by his wife of 64 years Delores of Primghar, children and their spouses Larry and Mindi Ginger of Des Moines, Iowa; Rick and Karen Ginger of Primghar and Laurie and Larry Haugen of Mason City, Iowa; grandchildren Neal and his wife Kari Ginger, Kelli Ginger, Sarah Haugen, Scott and his wife Julie Haugen, Jasmine Ginger, Danni and her husband John Hintz and Nicole Morton also many special nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters Margaret and her husband George Bain, Alid and her husband Milt Bondus, Dorothy Lubischer and one brother Jim Ginger.
And in the end it’s not the years in your life that count, it’s the life in your years.
