JOHN VAN DEN BRINK
John Van den Brink, the son of Wiendald and Engelena (Posthuma) Van den Brink, was born October 6, 1914 on the family farm south of Sheldon, Iowa. After attending school in Sheldon, he worked for his dad on the farm. On April 15, 1943, he was united in marriage to Mary Feekes in Sheldon, Iowa. After their marriage, the couple made their home on the Van den Brink family farm, where John farmed until his retirement. His wife, Mary, preceded him in death October 27, 1963 in Sheldon, Iowa. John continued to make his home on the farm until moving into the Fieldcrest Assisted Living in Sheldon in 2003. He passed away on Monday, December 26, 2005, at the Northwest Iowa Health Center ~ Senior Care in Sheldon, Iowa, at the age of 91 years, 2 months and 20 days.
He was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sheldon. John loved farming and he loved the land. He was an avid card player, and enjoyed reading, fishing, going for rides and visiting with people.
John leaves to cherish his memories, two daughters and their husbands, Elaine and Ron Hulstein of Juneau, Alaska; Carolyn and Gary Walsh of Nampa, Idaho; four grandchildren: Jeff Hulstein, Jason Hulstein, Molly Mohammed and Jessie Wilkerson; six great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, a granddaughter, Bridget Walsh; two sisters, Tena Bergsma and Jennie Fykstra; three brothers, Art, Ralph and Wynard Van den Brink.
