JOHN R. VER MEER

John R. Ver Meer, the son of Edward and Jennie (Vander Maten) Ver Meer was born May 5, 1925 in Boyden, Iowa. He attended the Christian School in Boyden for a few years before attending the Boyden Public School and graduating from the Boyden High School in 1943. After high school, he farmed with his parents. On March 5, 1947, he was united in marriage to Leona Kleyne in Boyden, Iowa. After their marriage, the couple farmed northeast of Boyden. John passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2009 at the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center in Sheldon, reaching the age of 84 years, 3 months and 25 days.
He was a very active member of the First Reformed Church in Boyden, teaching catechism, Sunday school and Bible study. He enjoyed reading his Bible and sharing his faith. He was also involved with prison ministry, M 2 (Man to Man). He enjoyed spending time with his family and giving rides to his grandchildren in the tractors.
John leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Leona of Sheldon; five children, Bradley and his wife, Linn Ver Meer of Leawood, KS; Ellen and her husband, Dennis Riepma of Spencer, IA; Rebecca and her husband, Nick Tenekedes of Chuluota, FL; Bruce and his wife, Sheryl Ver Meer of Rock Island, IL; James and his wife, Karla Ver Meer of Colorado Springs, CO; 11 grandchildren, Michael Ver Meer; Katrina Wingers; Megan Riepma; Nicholas and Christian Tenekedes; Grant, Taylor, Anthony, Marcus, Andrea and Jozlyn Ver Meer; 1 great-grandson, Liam Ver Meer; a sister, Wilmina Swets of North Long Beach, CA; two brothers and their spouses, Everett and Margaret Ver Meer and Frank and Esther Ver Meer all of Boyden, IA and a sister-in-law, Wilma Brink of Corsica, SD; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
