JOHN A. FISCHER
John Anthony Fischer, the son of Fred and Madeline (Fredericks) Fischer was born September 14, 1930 in Hospers, Iowa. He received his education in Hospers schools. He was called into service in the Army during the Korean Conflict. On April 4, 1956, he was united in marriage to Catherine Penning in Granville, Iowa. After their marriage the couple settled in Hospers for 9 months before moving to the Sheldon area where he farmed for many years and trucked for W.B. Granstra before his retirement. In October of 2005, he became a resident of the Prairie View Retirement Home in Sanborn. He passed away on Wednesday December 31, 2008 at Prairie View reaching the age of 78 years, 3 months and 17 days.
He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the V.F.W. all of Sheldon.
John is survived by his wife, Catherine of Sheldon; six children, Jim and his wife, Lori Fischer of Sheldon; Jolene Fischer of Sylmar, California; Lyle and his wife, Darla Fischer of Orange City, Iowa; Alan and his wife, Jill Fischer of Monaca, Pennsylvania; Robert Fischer of Ottawa, Kansas and Gary and his wife, Kathy Fischer of Surprise, Arizona; 11 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rosanne Goebel of Worthington, Minnesota; Christine Sauer of Sheldon, Iowa; three brothers, Harold Fischer of Fulda, Minnesota; Gerald Fischer of Rock Valley, Iowa and Jerome Fischer of Hospers, Iowa; also nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Don Sauer.

Memorials may be made to the: Northwest Iowa Home Health and Hospice in Sheldon, and the Parkinson Disease Foundation.
