JOHANNA “JO” DEN HARTOG
Johanna “Jo” Den Hartog, the daughter of Henry P. and Anna Marie (Scholten) Langstraat, was born July 14, 1916 at Newkirk, Iowa. She received her education in country schools and graduated from Newkirk High School in 1934. On November 28, 1935, she was united in marriage to Lawrence Den Hartog at her parent’s farm home near Newkirk, Iowa. After their marriage the couple lived in Waterloo, Clarion, Eagle Grove and Webster City, where Lawrence managed airports. Jo assisted him in fueling planes and taking many, many phone calls at the airport. The couple moved to Sheldon in 1972. Lawrence preceded her in death on October 30, 1997 in Sheldon. Jo remained in the family home and moved to the Christian Retirement Home in Sheldon in 1999 and later to the Fieldcrest Assisted Living in Sheldon in 2003. She passed away on Sunday, November 12, 2006 at the Northwest Iowa Health Center in Sheldon, reaching the age of 90 years, 3 months and 29 days.
She was a member of the Sheldon United Methodist Church in Sheldon, the Hannah Circle of the church. She was a former member of the Merry-Go-Around Club and enjoyed reading, playing cards and traveling.
Jo leaves to cherish her memory, a brother, Herman Langstraat of Orange City, Iowa; two sisters, Anna Rensink of Sheldon, Iowa and Nellie Langstraat of Des Moines, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Alice Langstraat of Hospers, Iowa; special friends, David and Edna Price and Randy and Sandy Brouwer; also many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers, Peter and Lester “Ted” Langstraat; and a sister, Harriet Zorgdrager.
