JOHANNA C. HOOGETERP
Johanna Christina Hoogeterp, the daughter of Lubbertus Henry and Gertrude Kathrine (Vos) te Velde was born July 23, 1929 in Ireton, Iowa. Johanna grew-up in Ireton and Brooten, Minnesota where she also received her education. Johanna worked at the Campbell Soup Company in Worthington and for a nursing home near Brooten before she was married. On June 23, 1954, she was united in marriage to Theo Hoogeterp in Brooten, Minnesota and the couple made their home on the south edge of Sheldon, Iowa. Johanna was a mother and a homemaker, she helped her husband with his business and she also cleaned the Security State Bank in Sheldon for a while. She was preceded in death by her husband, Theo on May 26, 2007. Johanna remained in their home until moving to Sanford Senior Care in Sheldon in February of 2013 and then to the Good Samaritan Society Nursing Home in George, Iowa in May. Johanna passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home reaching the age of 83 years, 10 months and 21 days.
She was a member of First Reformed Church of Sheldon. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and donating the items to whoever needed them; gardening, watching her birds and camping. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
Johanna leaves to cherish her memory her three children and their spouses, Harlan and Aletha Hoogeterp of Canton, South Dakota; Steven and Corrine Hoogeterp of Spencer, Iowa and Karen and Steven Varner of Sheldon, Iowa; six grandchildren, Jeffrey, Christina, Adam, Andrew, Johanna and Johnathan; four great grandchildren, Summer, Landen, Lilleigh and Skye; five brothers and sisters, Bertha Smit, Gertrude Bothof, Elaine Grumbles, Conrad “Con” and Carol te Velde, and Gerrit “John” and Elsie te Velde; a sister-in-law, Nel te Velde; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Theo; an infant son, Timothy; her parents, a sister and her husband, Berendina and Alfred Ras; two brothers, Herman “Herm” te Velde and Albert Kornelius and Lynn te Velde; and two brothers-in-law, Harry Smit and Gerald Bothof.
