On Wednesday, December 6, 2023, Joan (Wilson) Brink, passed away at
the age of 84. Her devoted daughters Kimberly Brink, Tammie Scherrer,
Susan Schenbeck, and Jill Gilpatrick were by her side. Joan was born on
April 24, 1939 in Sioux City, Iowa, along with her twin sister Jean, to Art and
Ruby Wilson. She grew up on the family farm and attended schools in
Lawton, Iowa. Joan attended Iowa State Teachers college before marrying
Michael Wayne Brink in June of 1960.

Joan and Mike lived in mid-western states before settling in Arvada,
Colorado in 1967, where they lived and raised their four daughters for over
50 years. Joan was an excellent seamstress, and made stylish clothes for
her daughters throughout their childhoods. She could often be seen driving
the family station wagon to all corners of Arvada, taking her girls to
gymnastics, volleyball, soccer, or whichever sport or activity was currently
in season. While she enjoyed watching her girls compete, she was quite
happy when they started earning their driver’s licenses.

As her daughters grew older, she began a career as a teaching
assistant/paraprofessional for Jeffco schools, fulfilling a long-time dream of
teaching elementary age children. Her kind and gentle manner was greatly
loved by dozens of students over the years.

Joan had a great appreciation for music. She sang in the church choir and
played in the handbell choir at Arvada United Presbyterian Church for
decades. She encouraged her daughters to pursue piano lessons;
although the enthusiasm for piano didn’t take as well as she would have
liked, the girls all developed their own musical interests from that early
exposure to the piano.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, her twin sister Jean (Wilson)
Edwards, sister, Mary Lou Wilson, and her husband Michael Brink.

She is survived by her four daughters, and seven grandchildren: Dillon and Adam Scherrer, Chantz,
Adlee, and Grayson Schenbeck, and Sara and Connor Gilpatrick.
