Jean Vernette Nelson was born September 11, 1930 in Westbrook, Minnesota to Walter and Christena (Madson) Nelson. She was baptized, confirmed and married at Trinity Lutheran Church. She and Harold attended Old Westbrook Lutheran Church most of their married life until after retiring from farming in 1994. They then joined Trinity Lutheran and she remained a member there up to the present.
Harold and Jean were married on September 4, 1955 and farmed north of Storden, Minnesota. Jean attended Mankato State University and attained a degree in teaching prior to her marriage. She taught high school classes for a few years. Subsequently she worked at International Harvester in Storden as a bookkeeper and retired from the extension office in Windom. She most often had a smile on her face.
Jean loved to play cards, bake treats for her loved ones, attend any Westbrook-Walnut Grove Charger event. She was named fan of the game during the 2023-2024 school year. Always a Charger fan this was an honor she was most proud of. Despite being an only child, she loved being a part of and getting together with Harold’s many brothers, sisters, in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Jean is survived by her two children Carma (Rick) Nordahl and Todd Lohre; three grandchildren Laurie (Sam Ginsberg) Callie (Ben Hoelker) and Graden (Ashley) Nordahl. She was proud to have a bonus granddaughter Gaby Burbano as a part of her life since meeting in 1996. Jean’s greatest honor is being called great grandma to Jace Dykstra, Harlee and Wyatt Nordahl. Additionally, Jean is survived by brother and sisters-in-laws Lee and Ginny Lohre (South Carolina); Darlene Arfsten (Storden); Zola Wood (Windom); Evelyn Lohre (South Carolina) and Muriel Link (Sioux Falls).
She was greeted into paradise by her husband Harold who preceded her on October 21, 2012; along with her parents and many relatives and friends.
