JAMES JIM P. CARDIN
James Jim Patrick Cardin, the son of Modeste and Julia (Mulhern) Cardin, was born on April 21, 1928, in Sioux City, Iowa. He attended school in Sheldon and graduated from Sheldon High School in 1946. Jim served in the Iowa Army National Guard in Sheldon for several years. On June 6, 1949, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Kay Grafton at St. Patricks Catholic Church in Sheldon, Iowa. They made their home and raised their family in Sheldon. Jim worked for Northwest Bell as a telephone repairman for 42 years. After his retirement they moved to Ashton, Iowa and wintered in Florida . They moved to the Prairie View Home in Sanborn, Iowa in 2011, where he passed away on April, 7, 2015 reaching the age of 86 years.
Jim was a past member of St. Patricks Catholic Church in Sheldon; St. Marys Catholic Church in Ashton and currently was a member of St. Cecilias Catholic Church in Sanborn. He was also a member of the Sheldon Knights of Columbus and was an avid member of the Ham Radio Club in Sheldon. He was a past Boy Scout Leader and a Hospice Volunteer. Jim will be remembered as a very loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved family gatherings.
Jim is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marilyn; and their children, Mark Cardin of Truckee, California; Debra Bullock of Port Orange, Florida/Sheldon, Iowa; Dana Cardin of Des Moines, Iowa; Thomas and (Carol) Cardin of Boise, Idaho; 3 grandchildren, Kassie and Doug Jordan, and Joseph and Christian; 3 great-grandchildren, Doug Jr., Alex and Nick; 2 brothers-in-laws, 3 sisters-in-laws and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law.
