JOYCE FALINE DAU
On Sunday, January 21, 2018 Joyce Faline Dau (74) passed away peacefully at the Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley, Iowa where she had been a resident for several years.
Faline was the daughter of Gilbert and Florence Sparks. She was born May 27, 1943, in Everett Pennsylvania. Her family relocated to Iowa, where she started kinder-garten at Calumet, Iowa. She graduated from Paullina High School in 1961. On June 14, 1962, she was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Daniel Dau, at The Little Brown Church at Nashua, Iowa. She was a longtime member of the Zion United Church of Christ in Calumet, Iowa. There she served as President of the Women’s Fellowship, as a Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, as well as doing many janitorial tasks. She was the Zion Church secretary for many years, earning her praise and an award for her many years of dedicated service to the church she loved. Faline helped start the Red Hat group in Calumet, and enjoyed participating in all the fun activities. Faline loved spending time with her grandson, Jackson. They made cookies decorated for holidays, read stories, made forts and played games and cards. Jackson frequently accompanied Dan and Faline camping and fishing. In her spare time, Faline enjoyed playing the piano, listening to music, spending time with her family, and above all polka dancing with Dan.
Faline leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 56 years, Daniel Dau of Calumet, Iowa; one daughter, Donna Dau of Ames, Iowa; a son, Jayson (Robin) and their son, Jackson Dau of Calumet, Iowa; a sister, Eleanor Smith of Calumet, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Barb Dau of Sutherland, Iowa; brothers-in-law, Lloyd (Jan) Dau of Calumet, Iowa and Roger Dau of LeMars, Iowa; sister-in-law, Sandra Dau of Spirit Lake, Iowa, many loving nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Faline was preceded in death by her parents, her in laws, Delbert and Vera Dau, two brothers-in-law, Delmar Dau and Michael Smith.
