HOWARD R. LUCAS
Howard Robert Lucas, the son of Arie and Minnie (Beltman) Lucas was born February 6, 1923 at Sanborn, Iowa. After graduating from Sheldon High School in 1941, he served in the Marine Corp in W.W. II. Following that, he married Janice Kroese on December 6, 1945 at the First Reformed Church in Sheldon, Iowa. He farmed in the Sheldon, Matlock and Primghar areas and also had a corn shelling business. He and Jan later became resident managers of the Christian Retirement Home in Sheldon for several years. They often remarked their time there as a calling. The residents and staff brought them much joy. He took great pride in his remodeling skills having done three of their residents. He was a great fixer. Jan preceded him in death on September 19, 1999 in Sheldon. Howard remained in Sheldon and passed away on Friday, November 18, 2016 at the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa reaching the age of 93 years, 9 months and 12 days.
He was a lifelong member of the First Reformed Church in Sheldon. He will be remembered most by his family as a man who loved God and Country.
Howard is survived by his daughter, Joy (Bob) Kilstrom of Bettendorf, Iowa; son-in-law, Bill Hanson of Sioux City, Iowa; grandchildren, Brian (Carri) Kilstrom and Kevin (Shannon) Kilstrom all of Bettendorf, Iowa; Ann (Jon) Schneider of Brookings, South Dakota and Abby (Dave) Welte of Sioux City, Iowa; also 11 great grandchildren; one sister, Lois (Gerald) Kreykes of Sheldon, Iowa and one brother, Adrian (Carol) Lucas of Ames, Iowa; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice; a daughter, Michelle Hanson; his parents, Arie and Minnie Lucas; two brothers, Emerson and Bill Lucas; two sisters, Henrietta Postma and Emma Pesaresi.
Memorials may be directed to the Folds of Honor;
for children whose parents have passed away in the service.
