HERMAN LODE
Herman Lode, the son of Cornelius and Dena (Buysman) Lode; was born June 18, 1921 in rural Boyden, Iowa. He received his education in country school. On March 25, 1943, he was united in marriage to Jennie Poldervaart, in Sheldon, Iowa. The couple made their home in Sheldon, Iowa where he had Lode Trucking and a corn shelling business. Herman later became an International machinery salesman for O’Conner Implement and later for McGillick’s Implement all in Sheldon. He passed away on Sunday, August 29, 2010 at the Sanford Sheldon Health Center, reaching the age of 89 years, 2 months and 11 days.
He was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sheldon. He enjoyed camping, traveling, attending Country and Bluegrass festivals. The couple spent 25 years wintering in Texas, Florida and Arizona. He enjoyed playing cards, working on bicycles and having coffee with the gang, also visits to RV Central camper sales and Drenkow Motors. Herman especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, family members and his many friends. Flying the American Flag was important to Herman.
Herman is survived by his wife of 67 years, Jennie of Sheldon; one son, Leroy Lode of Memphis, TN; one daughter, Mary and her husband, Michael Fanning of Spirit Lake, Iowa; seven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren, two sisters, Marie Van Veldhuizen and Cornelia Oldenkamp of Sheldon; one brother and his wife, Gerrit and Rose Lode of Sheldon; also nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law Betty Lode, great grandson Jake Raines, parents and five brothers Werner, John, Dick, Henry & Carl.
