HERBERT C. HIBBING
Herbert C. Hibbing, the son of Emil and Martha (Ahlers) Hibbing was born August 20, 1929 in Colgate, North Dakota. He received his education in Colgate until the 2nd grade before he moved with his mother to Germany for a year. They returned to the United States and to Paullina in 1938, where the family settled on a farm west of Paullina. He furthered his education in Paullina and attended Paullina High School. He was called into the service during the Korean Conflict serving in the Army for twenty one months. On August 14, 1955, he was united in marriage to Lela M. Dubberke at the Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina. The couple settled on the Hibbing family farm west of Paullina, where they farmed, raised cattle and hogs for many years. Lela passed away on January 22, 2012 in Primghar. Herb remained on the family farm and even this fall was able to help his son Don with the farming. Herb passed away on Wednesday, December 24, 2014 at the South Ridge Health Care Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota reaching the age of 85 years, 4 months and 4 days.
He was baptized into the Lutheran faith on September 8, 1929 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hope, North Dakota and later confirmed on May 21, 1944 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina where he had been a long time member. He enjoyed his family especially his grandchildren, and loved being outside on the farm.
Herb is survived by his children, Rhonda and her husband, Lee Swanson of Lakefield, MN; Donald and his wife, Brenda Hibbing of Sibley, Iowa and Janet and her husband, Peter Grote of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; eight grandchildren, Joshua (Ami), Jordan (Jenni), Taylor, Shaun, Bryan, Ashley, Adam and Alyssa; two great granddaughters, Kaelyn and Lela; two brothers, Reinhard Hibbing of Hartley, Iowa and Arnold and his wife, Jean Hibbing of Paullina, Iowa and other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and two sisters-in-law, Wanda and Wilma Hibbing.
