HERBERT A. REEKERS
Herbert Herb Arthur Reekers, the son of Arie and Maggie (Van Kekerix) Reekers, was born September 13, 1928 in Archer, Iowa. Herb lived in Archer until he was 13 years old at which time they moved to the family farm northwest of Sheldon. He attended school in Sheldon and graduated from the Sheldon High School in 1946. Herb was united in marriage to Ruth Janet De Roos on April 19, 1950 at St. Patricks Catholic Church in Sheldon, Iowa. Herb worked as a hired hand for several years in the Hull, Sheldon and Sanborn area and in the winter time he worked for APCO Gas Station in Sheldon. In 1965, they moved to the home place northwest of Sheldon. Ruth preceded him in death on May 4, 2012 in Sheldon and Herb remained on the family farm until his passing on Sunday October 4, 2015 and the Sanford Sheldon Senior Care in Sheldon reaching the age of 87 years and 21 days.
Herb was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Sheldon. He enjoyed fishing, pool especially Snooker, working in the garden, mowing, watching Pro-Wrestling and he loved his dog, Jessie.
Herb is survived by his three children, Barb and her husband, Mike Davis of Sheldon, Iowa; Clark and his wife, Roxie Reekers of Lake Park, Iowa and Linda and her husband, Dan De Jager of Sanborn, Iowa; 6 grandchildren, Herbert and Jessica Heien, Garrison and Libby Reekers, Stacie and Tad Hoeschen, Lori and Jamie Johnson, Curt De Jager and Chris De Jager; step-grandchildren, Shannon and Chet Hofman and Deric and Leeann De Jager; 20 great-grandchildren; a sister, Gladys Daily of Aurora, Colorado; a brother, Lynn and Sylvia Reekers of Council Bluffs, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Gladys Brinkman of Sheldon, Iowa and Lucy De Roos of Algona, Iowa and a brother-in-law and his wife, Dale and Carolyn De Roos of Washington; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; his parents, a great-grandson; six sisters, Elizabeth Caprio, LaVonne Westphalen, Mary Jane Rains, Rozella Weekly, Geneva Nieuwenhouse, Leona Reekers and a brother-in-law, Dewain De Roos.
