HENRY LODE
Henry Lode, the son of Cornelius and Dena (Buysman) Lode was born January 12, 1919 in Sanborn, Iowa. He received his education in country schools. On November 16, 1938, he was united in marriage to Lena Korbyn in Sheldon, Iowa. After their marriage the couple settled on a farm north of Sheldon where they farmed for many years. Lena preceded him in death on September 12, 1973 in Sheldon. On August 2, 1974, he was united in marriage to Wilma Vos in Sheldon, Iowa. The couple continued to farm north of Sheldon until his retirement in 1977, when they moved into Sheldon. Wilma preceded him in death on May 25, 2006 in Sheldon. Henry moved to the Fieldcrest Assisted Living in November of 2006. He passed away at the Sanford Medical Center in Sheldon, reaching the age of 89 years, 2 months and 8 days.
He was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sheldon. Henry enjoyed fishing and woodworking.
Henry is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Elaine and Merlyn Vander Lee and Shirley and Edgar Jager all of Sheldon; a son-in-law and his wife, Arlan and Neva Van Wyk of Sheldon; two step-children, Carol and her husband, Duane Schmidt of Edgerton, MN and Gary and his wife, Wanda Vos of Sheldon; also ten grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren; seven step grandchildren and fourteen step great-grandchildren; two brothers and their wives, Herman and Jennie Lode and Gerrit and Rose Lode all of Sheldon; and two sisters, Marie and her husband, Gilbert Van Veldhuizen and Cornelia Oldenkamp all of Sheldon; also nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wives, Lena and Wilma; a daughter, Donna Van Wyk; step-son-in-law, Arvin Smit; a step great-grandson, Anthony Vos; and four brothers, Werner, John, Dick and Carl Lode.
