HAZEL O. PEARSON
Hazel Opal Pearson, the daughter of Alpha and Emma (Houts) Earl was born August 26, 1904 in Decatur, Nebraska. She moved with her family to Worthington, Minnesota, where she received her education. On November 3, 1921, she was united in marriage to George Edgar Pearson in Sibley, Iowa. After their marriage the couple lived in Jasper, Luverne and Kanranzee, Minnesota, before settling in the Allendorf, Iowa area. While in Allendorf, she assisted her husband as a depot agent with the Rock Island Railroad and the couple operated a garage and trucking business. In 1955, they moved to the Archer area and owned and operated the Archer Grocery & Locker, until they retired in 1963. In their retirement the couple spent 18 years wintering in Texas. Her husband preceded her in death on June 16, 1982. She remained in Archer until moving to the Paullina Care Center in 2003. She passed away at the care center on Monday, July 16, 2007, reaching the age of 102 years, 10 months and 20 days.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Archer and she enjoyed playing cards, marbles and crocheting.
Hazel leaves to cherish her memory five daughters, Phyllis and her husband, Kenneth Johns of Spencer, Iowa; Geraldine (Gerry) and her husband, Delbert Rusche of Hartley, Iowa; Delores (Dee) and her husband, Jerry Saunders of Paullina, Iowa; Judy Drenth and her friend, Jim LeStrange of Spencer, Iowa; Joan and her husband, Dale Schuck of Sibley, Iowa; eighteen grandchildren, thirty-eight great-grandchildren and thirty great-great-grandchildren; also other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, Patsy Van Dyk; a son, Burdell Pearson; two grandsons, two great-grandchildren, her parents, four brothers and a sister.
