HARVEY D. MORET
Harvey Duain Moret, the son of William J. and Jeanette (Rons) Moret was born December 8, 1937 in Sheldon, Iowa. He received his education in a country school near Boyden and graduated from Boyden High School in 1955. He went on to further his education at N.I.T.C. in Sheldon. In 1956, he joined the United States Navy serving on the U.S.S. Lexington, being in such places as Hawaii, Japan, Hong Kong, Guam and the Philippines. He served in the Naval Reserve until 1968. On June 18, 1959, he was united in marriage to Gladys Vande Garde in Hull, Iowa. After their marriage the couple made their home near Boyden and Harvey worked from 1959 until 1972 for Smit & Son Packing Plant in Boyden. He began farming in 1971 and in 1972, he started Boyden Truck Service. He farmed and ran the truck service until his retirement in 2005 and the couple moved into Sheldon. In 2002, he found he had cancer and was active in the Relay for Life. He passed away on Saturday, January 16, 2010 at the Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls reaching the age of 72 years, 1 month and 8 days.
He was a member of the First Reformed Church in Boyden. He enjoyed watching all sports and especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren’s basketball games. He also enjoyed playing cards with family and friends.
Harvey is survived by his wife of 50 years, Gladys of Sheldon; four children, Jeff and his wife, Kim Moret of Sheldon; Shawn Moret of Odebolt; Galen Moret of Glade Spring, Virginia and Ryan and his wife, Sue Moret of Sioux Center; thirteen grandchildren, Rhianna, Rylee, Tyler, Casey, Bailey, Chelsea, Jessica, Lauren, Jameson, Jacob, Jade, Josh and Jonah; one brother, Marv and his wife, Wineva Moret of Mankato, MN; six sisters, LaVonne and her husband, Rod Grooters of Rock Rapids; Nelva and her husband, LeRoy Rohlfs of Boyden; Linda Heiliger of Sheldon; Cheryl and her husband, Ken Bennett of Sioux Falls, SD; Carol Moret of Sheldon and Marcia and her husband, Phil Sietstra of Sioux Falls, SD; one uncle, two aunts, many nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Rachael; his parents and two brothers, LeRoy and Ronald.
