HARRY E. EBEL
Harry Edwin Ebel, the son of Walter and Clara (Hoppe) Ebel was born April 8, 1929 in Iona, Minnesota. He moved with his family to the Germantown area where he received his education at St. John Lutheran School and received his GED in 1976. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from 1948 until 1951. On December 7, 1952, he was united in marriage to Margaret Fiddelke at St. John Lutheran Church in Germantown. After their marriage the couple farmed in the Paullina area for many years and Harry also worked for Farm Bureau as a crop adjuster. The couple moved into Paullina in 1987 and Harry retired in 1991. He passed away on Friday, October 2, 2009 at his home in Paullina, reaching the age of 80 years, 5 months and 24 days.
He was baptized on April 28, 1929 in Iona, Minnesota and later confirmed on April 18, 1943 at St. John Lutheran Church in Germantown. He was active in his church, serving on several boards. He was also a member of the Russell West Post of the American Legion and the Paullina Co-op Elevator Board. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking.
Harry leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Margaret of Paullina; six children and their spouses, Lloyd and Lois Ebel of Paullina; Lori and Greg Sjaarda of Spirit Lake, Doug and Deb Ebel of Larrabee; Dan and Kim Ebel of Paullina; Kathi and Leland Schmidt of Spirit Lake and Kari and Mark Lange of Paullina; twenty-one grandchildren, Jennifer and Jeremy Jalas; Dawn and Todd Honkomp; Lee Ebel; Jon Sjaarda; Ryan and Carrie Sjaarda; Erin and Nathan Folkmann; Bethany Sjaarda; Danielle, Reagan, Morgan, Colton and Terran Ebel; Adam and Amber Ebel; Brittini, Courtney and Christian Ebel; Cale and Dondi Schmidt; Dani, Madison and JC Lange; also three great-grandchildren, Tory and Kyson Jalas and Benjamin Honkomp; three sisters, Velma and her husband, Harold Dau of Primghar; Clara and husband, Delmar Sickelka of Sutherland and Lillian and her husband, Grant Lage of Audubon, Minnesota; and one brother, Donald and his wife, Jan Ebel of Sutherland; a sister-in-law, Shirley Ebel of Paullina; also other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, Joni and Judi, a granddaughter, Jill Sjaarda; parents, two sisters, Helen and Bernice and one brother, Roy.
