HARRIET S. ROLSTON
Harriet Sue Rolston, the daughter of Arthur and Kathryn (Van Diepen) Miller, was born November 15, 1916 in Boyden, Iowa. She received her education in Boyden, graduating from Boyden High School in 1933. She attended Sheldon Junior College for two years and graduated from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, with a BS in Education in 1938. Upon graduation, Harriet taught junior high English for four years in several different communities in northwest Iowa.
On July 14, 1944, she was united in marriage to R.C. “Razz” Rolston in Boyden, Iowa. After their marriage, the couple made their home on the family farm north of Sheldon. Her husband preceded her in death on April 29, 1984. Harriet remained in the family home and was active in the management of the farm. She moved into Sheldon in August of 1998. She resided there until June of 2009 when she moved to Prairie View Nursing Home in Sanborn. Harriet passed away on Sunday, September 20, 2009 reaching the age of 92 years, 10 months and 4 days.
Harriet was a member of the Sheldon Church of the Brethren where she served as the church organist for over 25 years. From an early age, she loved to travel and was always ready for a trip, whether it was day of shopping or a cross-country vacation. She always enjoyed her afternoon coffee downtown, visiting with friends and weekends with family at Okoboji. Harriet loved reading books and magazines and was never without a subscription to the daily newspaper even when her vision allowed her to only read the headlines. Education was important to her and she was so very proud of the fact that all of her grandchildren had college degrees.
Living in the Rolston family homestead, she was a gracious hostess to all of her brothers and sisters-in-law as well as the many nephews, nieces, and their families whenever they stopped to visit.
Harriet is survived by her two daughters, Lynn Rolfsmeier and Barbara Rolston both of Sheldon; five grandchildren, Molly Rolfsmeier and her husband, John Abraham of Minneapolis, MN; Liz Rolfsmeier of Minneapolis, MN, Paul Rolfsmeier, Minneapolis, MN; John Meese Jr. and his wife, Stephanie of Lincoln, NE; Jeffrey Meese and his fiancé, Erin Padilla of Lincoln, NE; two great-grandchildren, Olivia and Lilith Abraham; plus nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, R.C. Rolston and her parents.
