Butcher, age 71 of Calumet, Iowa who passed away on Monday, November 29, 2010 at the Baum-Harmon Mercy Hospital in Primghar, will be Friday, December 3, 2010 at Donna’s in Calumet from 4 to 7 P.M. with a service at 6:00 P.M. Friday at Donna’s in Calumet, the Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home of Paullina is assisting the family.

HAROLD “BUTCH” E. BUTCHER
Harold “Butch” Eldon Butcher, the son of Eldon and Marion (Smith) Butcher was born July 29, 1939 in Holstein, Iowa. He received his education in a country school near Holstein and graduated from Holstein High School in 1957. He then joined the United States Navy in 1957 and served until 1961. On August 9, 1963, he was united in marriage to Donna Meyer in Elk Point, South Dakota. After their marriage the couple settled on a farm south of Paullina where they farmed for 5 years. In 1968, the couple moved to Calumet where he was employed in construction and later established his own construction business. He also ran Butcher’s Texaco in Calumet and before his retirement drove school bus for South O’Brien Schools. He passed away on Monday, November 29, 2010 at the Baum-Harmon Mercy Hospital in Primghar reaching the age of 71 years and 4 months.
He was a member of the Abiff Lodge No 347 of Sutherland and a member of Zion United Church of Christ in Calumet. He enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. He attended many sporting events that they were involved in and traveled many miles to support them. He enjoyed playing cards and doing crosswords.
Harold is survived by his wife, Donna of Calumet; three daughters, Debra (Charlie) Peck of Calumet; Denise (Steve) Dunnick of Emmetsburg and Dana Petrich and special friend (Jim Rehder) of Calumet; one son, Daren Butcher of Arnolds Park; 11 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, his mother, Marion Grothaus of Cherokee; two brothers, Donnie (Glenda) Butcher of LeMars and John (Linda) Butcher of Holstein; his mother-in-law, Lucile Meyer of Sutherland; also other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Eldon.
Butch’s memory will live on thru him being an eye donor.
