GRETCHEN “GEDDY” D. HANSEN
Gretchen “Geddy” Dorathy Hansen, the daughter of R.C. and Pauline (Mueller) Fick was born October 9, 1922 in Boone, Iowa, she moved with her parents as a child to Boyden, Iowa, where they operated the Handy Town. She received her education in Boyden and graduated from Boyden High School in 1940. She was united in marriage to Robert George Hansen on February 14, 1946 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheldon. After their marriage the couple made their home on a farm northeast of Sheldon. Geddy had worked as the secretary for St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheldon for 10 years. She was preceded in death by her husband on August 11, 2003. She remained on the family farm until February of 2004, when she moved into Sheldon and in May of 2009, she became a resident of the Sanford Sheldon Senior Care in Sheldon. She passed away at the Senior Care on Tuesday, January 5, 2010, reaching the age of 87 years, 2 months and 27 days.
She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheldon, Laicos, Mary Circle, a Lector, Senior Choir, Sunday school teacher and Children’s Chapel Director. She enjoyed sewing, baking, playing cards; 500, Pinochle and Hand and Foot, she also enjoyed Square Dancing and was a member of the Sheldon Squareanaders. Geddy was also a talented artist, she enjoyed drawing, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and granddaughters.
Geddy is survived by her children, Douglas Hansen of Waterloo, Iowa; Nancy and her husband, Pastor Jerry Wittmus of Cedarville, Michigan and Gail Pike of Sheldon; two granddaughters, Faith and Hope Wittmus; and a sister, Bette Michel of Wheat Ridge, Colorado; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and a brother, Richard Fick.
