GRACE J. HULSTEIN
Grace J. Hulstein was born on June 20, 1915 in rural Hospers, Iowa, the daughter of John and Minnie (Vande Weerd) Vlieger. She grew up in the Hospers and Alton area where she attended a country school. On November 29, 1944, Grace was united in marriage to Fred Hulstein at the home of her parents near Hospers. To this union were born three children, Rodney, Loren and Sharon. Following marriage they farmed near Hospers until 1963 when they moved to a farm north of Sheldon. In 1983, they moved into Sheldon. Fred passed away on October 21, 1992 in Sheldon. She became a resident of Prairie View Nursing Home in June 2004.
She was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sheldon. She enjoyed gardening, word puzzles, reading and visiting with her family and friends.
Graces is survived by her three children and their spouses, Rodney and Beth Hulstein of Melvin, Iowa; Loren and Debra Hulstein of Sheldon, Iowa; Sharon and Myron Nichols of Dayton, Oregon; 8 grandchildren, Scott and his wife, Jamie Hulstein, Valerie and her husband Andy Hennig, Mark Hulstein, Michael Hulstein, Rachel Hulstein, Stacy Nichols, Kristi Nichols Jeffrey Nichols; 2 great-grandchildren, Ashilyn and Karissa Hulstein; two sisters, Harriet Hulstein of Fulda, Minnesota, Jeane Vlieger of Sheldon; 5 sisters-in-law, Gertrude Hulstein and Arlene Vlieger both of Sheldon, Iowa, Grayce Vander Broek of Folsom, California, Johanna and her husband, Harvey Van Es of Seal Beach, California, Nette Hulstein of Mesa, Arizona, nieces nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, 3 sisters, Annetta Joan Vlieger at 2 years old, Theresa Ann Hulstein, Mildred Vlieger in infancy, and 2 brothers, Nelson Vlieger and Robert Vlieger in infancy.
