GRACE DRENTH
Grace Drenth, the daughter of Mike and Mary (Hassebroek) Ackerman was born October 2, 1904 on the family farm near George, Iowa. She received her education in a country school in the George area. On July 1, 1934, she was united in marriage to Nick Drenth in Plankington, South Dakota. After their marriage the couple farmed in the Ellsworth, Minnesota and George, Iowa area until moving to Sheldon in 1943, where they continued to farm for many years. Her husband preceded her in death on June 29, 1991 in Sheldon. Grace remained in the family home and passed away there on Friday, January 2, 2009, reaching the age of 104 years, and 3 months.
She was a long time member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheldon and the Dorcas Circle of the church. She sewed and tied many quilts with the Lutheran Church Ladies. She enjoyed baking, sewing, playing cards and spending time with her family. Grace was a very compassionate woman who touched many lives and was loved by many. She was never known to complain during her long life.
Grace is survived by her children, Roger and his wife, Carol Drenth of Sheldon; James Drenth of Sheldon; Victor and his wife, Shirley Drenth of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; Ardith and her husband, Richard Evenson of Archer, Iowa and Clayton Drenth and his friend, Saundra West of Sheldon; 10 grandchildren, Ray Drenth; Rhonda Gebauer; Del Drenth; Michelle McIlroy; Vickie Jansma; Mary Raveling; Jane Long; David Evenson; James Evenson and Troy Drenth; 26 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren and special friends, Sue Behrens and Brett, Renae, Derek and Dalton Bahrenfuss; also nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two great-grandchildren, Sarah Drenth and Brennan Evenson; her parents, four brothers, Ed, Fred, Pete and Mitchell Ackerman; four sisters, Lena De Groot; Minnie DeNeui; Martha Julius and Anna Beek.
