GORDON J. TRAVER
Gordon James Traver, the son of Eldon “Dick” and Edna (Kummerfeld) Traver, was born April 7, 1932 in Paullina, Iowa. He attended Paullina schools and graduated from Paullina High School in 1951. He went on to join the Army serving during the Korean Conflict. On October 1, 1955, he was united in marriage to Nancy Gernhart. After their marriage the couple settled in Paullina, where he worked as a carpenter with his brother Charles and also operated Traver Tree Service for 25 years. The last years before he retired he worked as a superintendent for Minnesota Limited Pipeline from Rogers, Minnesota. His wife preceded him in death on May 7, 2008 in Orange City, Iowa. Gordon passed away on Sunday, June 29, 2008 at the Happy Siesta Care Center in Remsen, reaching the age of 76 years, 2 months and 22 days.
He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and the Russell West Post of the American Legion of Paullina.
Gordon is survived by three sons and their wives, Jay and Mary Traver of Warrensburg, Missouri; Guy and LaDona Traver of Paullina and Gene and Kim Traver of Phoenix, Arizona; six grandchildren, Collan, Joel, Dustan, Dallas, Dylan and Taryn; 3 step-grandchildren, Ashley, Chad and Melissa; a great-grandchild, Ayla; one brother, Kenneth Traver of Paullina; a sister and her husband, Doris Ann and Ronald Kruse of Paullina; two sister-in-laws, Bernice Traver and Adeline Traver both of Paullina; also other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, an infant daughter, Terri Lynn; his parents, two brothers, Charles and Burdette.
