GLEN V. MERLEY
Glen Vernon Merley, the son of Henry and Mae (McGranahan) Merley was born October 8, 1915 in Sheldon, Iowa. He attended country school and later graduated from Sheldon High School in 1934. On January 1, 1941, he was united in marriage to Marlys DeGraaf in Newkirk, Iowa. After their marriage the couple farmed south of Sheldon for many years. He retired from farming in 1981, and the couple remained on the family farm. His wife preceded him in death on February 27, 1988 in Sheldon, Iowa. Glen remained on the family farm until moving to Spirit Lake, Iowa, where he was currently residing at the Hilltop Care Center. He passed away on Friday, October 28, 2005 at the Lakes Regional Health Care Center in Spirit Lake, reaching the age of 90 years and 20 days.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Sheldon and the Order of the Eagles in Sheldon, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and fishing.
Glen leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, Bonnie Fokken of Spirit Lake, Iowa and Glenda Moriarty of Sgt. Bluff, Iowa; four grandchildren, Craig Fokken of Atlanta, Georgia; Robin Wagner of Waukee, Iowa; Dan and his wife, Stephanie Moriarty and Kirk and his wife, Paula Moriarty all of Sgt. Bluff, Iowa; six great-grandchildren, Raelynn and Rebecca Wagner, Tayler, Abby, Cole and Braden Moriarty; one brother and his wife, John and Mildred Merley of Sheldon, Iowa; three sisters-in-law, Gertrude Merley and Bonnie Merley both of Sheldon, Iowa; Olivia DeGraaf of Orange City, Iowa; also nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, six sisters, his twin sister, Gladys, Beulah, Leta, Hazel, Mary and Florence; three brothers, Joe, Robert and Louis.
