GILBERT VAN VELDHUIZEN
Gilbert Van Veldhuizen, the son of Everett and Suzie (De Jong) Van Veldhuizen, was born on April 23, 1923 at Matlock, Iowa. He entered in eternal rest November 5, 2008 in Sheldon, Iowa, reaching the age of 85 years, 6 months and 12 days. He lived his youth at Hospers, Iowa receiving his education at Hospers Christian School. He served in the Army during World War II. He was united in marriage to Marie (Lode) Van Veldhuizen on February 14, 1949 at First Reformed Church in Sheldon. The couple made their home in Sheldon, where Gil was employed with John Buysman Truck Line for thirty seven years. He later became a partner in business with Moorman Feeds out of Quincy, Illinois.
Gil was a longtime member of First Reformed Church in Sheldon, holding many offices over the years. Gil found pleasure and contentment in his driving, years of traveling, socializing with friends, family and his faith in God.
Gil is survived by his wife, Marie of 59 years; son, Ron and his wife, Roxanne Van Veldhuizen of Oelwein, Iowa; a daughter, Nancy and her husband, Claude Struve of Sheldon; six grandchildren, Tim and Kellye Davis; Nick and Nathan Van Veldhuizen; Kyle and his wife, Molly Struve and Kayla Struve; two sisters, Cornelia Van Leeuwen of Hudsonville, Michigan and Bertha Van Gorp of Sheldon, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Helen Van Veldhuizen of Storm Lake, Iowa and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Cornie and Edward; one sister, Nellie Den Hartog and brother-in-laws, Donald Den Hartog; Clarence Van Leeuwen; Darrel Roetman and Albert Van Gorp.
