Gertrude “Trudy” L. Blankers
After being visually impaired for the last 30 plus years of her life, Trudy Blankers opened her eyes to the glory of heaven on April 16, 2021. Gertrude Louise Blankers, daughter of Henry and Margaret (Brinks) Bosman, was born on December 30, 1929 in Boyden, Iowa. She lived in Boyden all her life until she moved to the Sheldon Christian Retirement Home with her husband, Glenn, in 2007. Trudy graduated from Boyden High School in 1947, and Northwestern Junior College in 1949. She taught in country schools in the Matlock area for 6 years.
On May 26,1954, Trudy married Glenn Blankers in the Boyden First Reformed Church. Trudy was a life-long member of the First Reformed Church making profession of faith in 1946. She taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, catechism, and was involved in the Reformed Church women’s ministries. She was a Girl Scout leader, a 4-H leader, and liked to do crafts of every kind, especially ceramics. She enjoyed her friendships made through the Red Hat Society and always had the coffee pot on with a snack for anyone that stopped by for a visit. She enjoyed singing and was a member of the Senior Saints for many years. Trudy was involved in the family business of gathering eggs for several years. She also worked in the Boyden-Hull elementary school kitchen as a cook.
To all who knew her, Trudy was a true example of perseverance and patience, showing a great attitude amid her visual struggles.
Trudy is survived by her 4 children, Gaylene of Winterset, Iowa, Gary (Evonne) of Sioux City, Iowa, Galen (Denise) of Sheldon, Iowa, and Gloria (Brian) Bartelt of Titonka, Iowa. She has 8 grandchildren, Andrea (Patrick) Regan, Mark (Diane) Blankers, Emily (Jacob) Nordin, Elizabeth (James) Borgens, Craig (Anna) Blankers, Chris (Jamie) Blankers, Matthew Bartelt, David Bartelt, and 7 great grandchildren. Also, her sisters-in-law, Mildred Blankers, Muriel (Andy) Kanengieter, and brother-in-law Harold (Aletha) Blankers.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn, parents, siblings, Johanna (Larry) Salmon, Beanie (Wilbur) Vander Tuig, Gerrit John (Winifred) Bosman, Margo (Harvey) Bruxvoort and an infant brother. Also, brothers-in-law, Dwight Blankers and Lee Blankers.
