GERALD E. CARNAHAN
Gerald Ernest Carnahan, the son of Ernest and Elsie (Muckler) Carnahan, was born on September 19, 1921 in Omega Township, O’Brien County, Iowa. He received his education in O’Brien County rural schools, Calumet and Primghar schools. On January 2, 1943, he was united in marriage to Eleanor Graesing in Dakota City, Nebraska. After he returned from serving in the Army during World War II, the couple farmed in the Storm Lake, Primghar and Hartley areas. In 1987, they retired to their home in Primghar. His wife preceded him in death on August 4, 2001 in Sioux City, Iowa. In 2003, he entered the Primghar Care Center, where he passed away on Friday, June 16, 2006, reaching the age of 84 years, 8 months and 27 days.
He was a member of the United Church of Primghar, the Chateau-Thierry Post of the American Legion of Primghar. He especially enjoyed camping and spending time with his family.
Gerald leaves to cherish his memory, one daughter and her husband, Barbara and Dennis Mars of Primghar; one grandson and his wife, Kevin and Jennifer Mars of Primghar; two great-grandchildren, Emily and Eric Mars; two brothers and their wives, Donald and Alice Carnahan of Worthington, Minnesota; Francis and Marjorie Carnahan of Sutherland, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Carnahan of Fremont, Nebraska; a brother-in-law, Kenneth Graesing of Spencer, Iowa; also a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, a son Gary Lee; his parents, two brothers, Robert and James; three sisters, Muriel; Marjorie and her husband, Lloyd Thompson and Evelyn and her husband, Art Kopp.
