Frances Zahren
Frances Zahren, the daughter of Walter and Leota (Bailey) Heick was born on May 11, 1929 in Peterson, Iowa. She attended country school and later completed her GED. On September 19, 1945, she was united in marriage to Robert Draper in Vermillion, South Dakota. After their marriage the couple farmed outside of Sutherland, Robert preceded Frances in death on August 7, 1976. On November 18, 1982, she married Charles Zahren. Frances was employed at the Cherokee Mental Institution as an Aide and she also worked at the Sioux Valley Hospital in Cherokee as an LPN. Chuck preceded Frances in death on October 2, 1998. After Chucks passing, Frances remained in Sutherland until entering the Sutherland Care Center in 2012. Frances passed away on Monday, November 17, 2014 at the Sutherland Care Center reaching the age of 85 years, 6 months and 6 days.
Frances was a member of the Sutherland United Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was very active in the Sutherland Ambulance and Fire Department as well as the Abu Bekr Shrine Temple. She enjoyed camping, riding motorcycles, being on the farm, reading and listening to country western music.
Frances is survived by her children and their spouses, Robert and Mary Draper of Sutherland, Iowa; Gerri and Nic Bristow of Sherrard, Illinois; Dale and Martha Draper of Marcus, Iowa; Gloria and Jim Siverling of Prospect, Ohio and Don and Paula Draper of Columbus, Ohio; step children, Mary and Miles Puhrmann of Paullina; Tammy Lowery of Kansas City, Missouri; step daughter-in-law, Judy Zahren; eleven grandchildren, Devin, Destiny (Kyle), Nick (Kimberly), Karla (Gary), Josh, Ben, Bob (Lucinda), Jodi (Scott), Heather (Tom) and Meagan; sixteen great grandchildren; a sister, Norma Nagel; a brother-in-law, Daryle Nagel; sisters-in-law, Delores Briggs and Joyce Hicks; also other relatives and friends.
Frances is preceded in death by her husbands, Robert and Charles; her parents; a step son, Terry Zahren and three sisters, Ramona, Doris and Geraldine.
