FLORENCE P. SPARKS
Florence Pauline Sparks, the daughter of Sidney and Mary Clark was born February 23, 1918 in Providence Township of Bedford County, Pennsylvania. She was united in marriage to Gilbert Sparks on October 1, 1940 in Cumberland, Maryland. The couple moved to Calumet, Iowa in 1948 and began farming and farmed in the Calumet area until 1961. Gilbert passed away on December 15, 1963. After his passing Florence made her home in Cherokee and worked as a nurse’s aide at Sioux Valley Hospital from 1962 until she retired in 1985. For the last few years she had been a resident of the Good Samaritan Center in Holstein. She passed away at the Good Samaritan on Sunday, December 12, 2010, reaching the age of 92 years, 9 months and 19 days.
She is survived by two daughters, Joyce Faline (Sparks) Dau and her husband, Daniel Dau of Calumet and Eleanor L. (Sparks) Smith of Calumet; five grandchildren, Tracey, Chad and Benjamin Smith and Jayson and Donna Dau; one great grandson, two sisters-in-law, Kate Clark of Medina, Ohio and Genieve Sparks of Greenville, Iowa; many nieces and nephews.
Florence was preceded in death by her husband, son-in-law, Michael J. Smith; her parents, two sisters and twelve brothers.
