EVELYN M. KRUSE
Evelyn MaryAnn Kruse, daughter of John and Myrtle Steinbeck, was born January 18, 1917, near Plessis, Iowa at their farm home. She received her early education at a country school and graduated from Hartley High school in 1934. Evelyn attended Samuel's School of Cosmetology and operated a beauty salon in Hartley. Evelyn married Vernon Kruse on February 17, 1943, in Hartley, Iowa. She and Vernon farmed in the Larrabee area after his service in the Air Force and lived in the country for the remainder of their marriage.
Evelyn was baptized on July 7, 1918 and later confirmed on March 20, 1932 all in Hartley, Iowa. She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School and was an active member of the Altar Guild and Concordia League. She was also a member of various clubs. Among the activities she enjoyed in her earlier days were bowling, sewing, cooking and gardening. Evelyn and Vernon were fortunate to enjoy a lot of traveling and fishing trips together. Up until the end, she was a great cook and card player. Evelyn passed away Friday, August 8, 2014 reaching the age of 97 years, 6 months and 20 days.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Vernon, of Larrabee, Iowa; a son, Ron (JoAnn) of Omaha, Nebraska and a daughter, JoAnn (Vaughn) Meyer of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; 5 grandchildren, Dena, Jason, Sara, Jill, and Meredith; 5 great grandchildren, Anna, Avery, Sophia, Joslyn, and Leo; 1 sister, Elaine Struve of Rossie, Iowa, and 1 brother, Keith (Donna) Steinbeck, Hartley, Iowa and 1 brother-in-law, Leonard Wallin of Paullina, Iowa and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers & 3 sisters-in-law, Garland & Ann Steinbeck, Wayne & Reva Steinbeck, Leland & Jean Steinbeck and Donald Steinbeck; 2 brothers-in-law & 2 sisters-in-law, Lester & Velma Kruse; Gordon Struve and Evelyn Wallin.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts will be given to
