EVELYN M. APPELDORN
Evelyn Margaret Appeldorn, the daughter of Henry and Frieda (Ottzen) Lemke, was born July 20, 1916 in Paullina, Iowa. She received her education in a country school. On September 20, 1936, she was united in marriage to Gustav “Gus” Appeldorn at the Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina. After their marriage, the couple farmed in the Paullina area and in 1954, they moved to the Art Beermann Farm southeast of Paullina. The couple farmed until their retirement. Their retirement years were spent on the farm. Gus preceded her in death on January 9, 1997 in Orange City. Evelyn then moved into Paullina to make her home. She moved to the Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley on September 3, 2010. She passed away at the Health Center on Saturday, December 11, 2010 reaching the age of 94 years, 4 months and 21 days.
She was baptized by Rev. A.H. Semmann in August of 1916 and confirmed by Rev. John Hartmeister on June 2, 1929 and was a lifelong member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, cooking, traveling especially with her husband taking their motor home and spending winters in Arizona.
Evelyn is survived by three sisters-in-law, Gladys Lemke of Moline, Illinois; Bev Lemke of Paullina and Marcella Appeldorn of Paullina; and many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and two brothers, Erv Lemke and Junior Lemke.
