EVELYN J. SCHMITZ
Evelyn June Schmitz was born June 27, 1924 in Lake View, Iowa, the daughter of George and Rosetta (Wunschel) Mauer. She graduated from Wall Lake High School in 1942. While working in Sioux City, Iowa in support of the war effort, she met Paul A. Schmitz who was on leave from the U.S. Navy. They were married March 9, 1943 in Dakota City, Nebraska. Evelyn and Paul lived in Storm Lake, Iowa for most of their married lives. Following Paul’s death in 1982, Evelyn moved to Alta, Iowa and for the last two years resided in Primghar. She passed away at the Prairie View Retirement Home in Sanborn reaching the age of 83 years, 9 months and 28 days.
Left to cherish her memory are three daughters, Sheryl and her husband, Scott Heppner of Primghar; Becky and her husband, Leighton Jessen of Alta, Iowa and Paula Schau of Ida Grove, Iowa; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Vickie Schmitz of Cedar Falls, Iowa and Tom and Sandi Schmitz of Bluffton, South Carolina; sixteen grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, a brother and sister-in-law, Virgil and Doris Mauer of Cedar Falls, Iowa; two nephews and their wives, Vincent and Kimberly Mauer of Cincinnati, Ohio and Steven and Julie Mauer of Kansas City, Missouri; also numerous cousins and other relatives and friends.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a grandson, two great-grandsons and a son-in-law.
