EUGENE L. SCHUKNECHT
Eugene Leslie Schuknecht the son of Frederick and Anna (Stoeckmann) Schuknecht was born February 27, 1930 in Caledonia Township, O’Brien County, Iowa. He received his education at St. John Lutheran School in Germantown and Paullina High School graduating in 1947. On May 20, 1951, he was united in marriage to Betty Dobbertin at St. John Lutheran Church in Germantown, Iowa. He was called into the Army serving from 1951 until 1953 during the Korean Conflict. He returned to the Germantown area and began farming. He farmed and was rural mail carrier for many years before retiring in 1993. The couple moved into Paullina in 1983. They enjoyed retirement years both in Paullina and wintering in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. He passed away on Tuesday, December 25, 2018 in Lake Havasu City, Arizona reaching the age of 88 years, nine months and twenty-eight days.
Gene was baptized on March 9, 1930 and later confirmed on April 18, 1943. He was a lifelong member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Germantown. He served his church as Elder, Trustee and President of the St. John Lutheran School Board. He was a former member of the Germantown Fire Department and enjoyed hunting.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 67 years, Betty Schuknecht of Paullina; four children, Patricia (Ed) Palmer of West Des Moines, Iowa; Allen (Janelle) Schuknecht of Primghar, Iowa; Fred (Dana) Schuknecht of Paullina, Iowa and Michael Schuknecht of Paullina, Iowa; also nine grandchildren; Ryan, Adam, Gene, Rachel, Nathan, Hilary, Nikki, Brooke and Scott; fourteen great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by a great granddaughter, Faith Ann Scheffler, parents, one sister, Ethel Beermann, and three brothers, Eldred, Burdette and Fred.
