EUGENE “GENE” H. REHDER

Eugene “Gene” August Henry Rehder, the son of Raymond and Stella (Mews) Rehder was born September 30, 1934 on his parent’s farm in rural Paullina, Iowa. He received his education at the Calumet school and graduated in 1952. He went on to attend Morningside College in Sioux City and graduated in 1956. He then entered the Army Reserves. On December 1, 1955, he was united in marriage to Jacqueline Thomas in Sioux City, Iowa. After their marriage the couple lived in Mitchell, South Dakota and Omaha, Nebraska, where Gene worked for Firestone Tire and Rubber Company. The couple moved to Sioux City where he worked as a manager for Sioux City Security Acceptance Corp. Gene returned to the Paullina area where the couple lived on the Herb Kniese farm and he farmed with his dad, Ray. When Ray retired the couple moved to the family farm; the Rehder Century Farm, where they still reside. Gene passed away at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota on Saturday, August 16, 2008 reaching the age of 73 years, 10 months and 16 days.
He was baptized and confirmed and was a lifelong member of the Zion United Church of Christ in Calumet and had served on the Board of the church. While at Morningside he joined Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. While living on the farm he was active in 4-H with the Liberty Lads, he coached Little League, was past president of the Sutherland Saddle Club and was active in the Appaloosa national horse club. He was a former member of the Paullina Golf Club and had served on the board.
Gene is survived by his wife of almost 53 years, Jackie of rural Paullina; three daughters and their husbands, Becky and Jeff Kuehl of Sanborn, Iowa; Laura and Tom Cody of Macomb, Illinois and Andrea and Tim Blowers at the NATO Air Force Base in Germany; one son and his wife, Paul and Jamey Rehder of Paullina; ten grandchildren, Kelly Lange, Dustin and Hunter Kuehl, Ryan and Drew Cody; Marcus, Danielle Blowers and Cole, Skyler and Makenna Rehder; also other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Gene loved his wife, children and grandchildren, and enjoyed farming, antiques and anything John Deere. He will be missed by anyone who knew him.
