ETHEL M. COLE

Ethel Margaret Cole, the daughter of George and Ruth (Jones) Kuehl, was born April 11, 1920 on the family farm near Everly, Iowa. She received her education in schools in Everly, Iowa and graduated from Hartley High School in 1937. Ethel furthered her education at Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and received a two year teaching certificate. She taught in a country school for four years, before moving to California in 1944. She returned to Iowa in 1947 and on June 27, 1948, she was united in marriage to Sidney C. Cole at the United Methodist Church in Spencer, Iowa. After their marriage the couple settled on a farm southeast of Primghar, where the couple farmed for many years. They retired and moved into Primghar. Her husband preceded her in death on December 17, 1996 in Primghar. Ethel remained in the family home until moving to the Primghar Care Center and in June of 2007, she then moved to St. Luke’s Lutheran Home in Spencer. She passed away at St Luke’s on Saturday, January 3, 2009, reaching the age of 88 years, 8 months and 22 days.
She was a member of the United Church of Primghar; the Primghar Federated Women’s Club and was active in the Primghar High School Music Boosters when her children were in school. She enjoyed reading, gardening and especially her flowers.
Ethel is survived by three children, Steve and his wife, Lynn Cole of Primghar; Linda and her husband, Jerry Miller of Okoboji, Iowa and Susan and her husband, David Watterson of Hastings, Minnesota; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, one brother and his wife, Hank and Lois Kuehl in Michigan; and a sister-in-law, Elsie Kuehl of Sibley; also other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sisters, Darlene and Eleanor; and two brothers, Carl and Allen (Pete).
