ESTHER M. KUIPER
Esther Mae Kuiper, the daughter of Oscar and Jennie (DeJong) Douma was born May 14, 1920 on a farm near Sheldon, Iowa. Esther was united in marriage to Carl Kuiper on January 1, 1941 in Sheldon, Iowa. After their marriage the couple farmed for a few years near Hartley, Iowa. They moved to Sheldon and spent the rest of their married life there. Carl passed away on April 22, 1990 in Sheldon. Esther was a cook in the Sheldon Community Schools for 14 years. In January of 2004, she moved into the Christian Retirement Home in Sheldon. In December 2005, she moved to the Hillside Terrace, an assisted living facility in Spencer and transferred to St. Luke Lutheran Home in January 2006. She passed away on Saturday, May 6, 2006, at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer, reaching the age of 85 years, 11 months and 22 days.
She was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sheldon and the V.F.W. Auxiliary. Esther enjoyed fishing, playing cards and going for coffee with her family and friends.
She is survived by her son, Gary and his wife, Marlis Kuiper of Spencer, Iowa; a daughter, Peggy Kuiper of Rochester, Minnesota; two grandchildren, Jeff Kuiper of Iowa City, Iowa and Jill Langlois of Redwood, California; two great-grandsons, Keryk and Dylan; also other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, Jane; her parents, seven sisters, Hattie Kleinwolterink, Jeanette De Hoogh, Edith Veldboom, Sadie Van Oort, Minnie VanDen Brink, Nellie Reeves and Julia De Hoogh; two brothers, Jake and Oscar Douma.
