ERVIN Wm. VERRIPS
Ervin William Verrips, the son of Cornelius and Lydia (Wilts) Verrips, was born July 20, 1932 on a farm near Boyden, Iowa. He attended the Bell Country School near Sheldon and graduated from Sheldon High School in 1949. After high school he helped his dad farm and do custom work. Later he took over the corn shelling business from his father, doing that for over 50 years. He also helped out at Don’s Sheet Metal in Sheldon. On February 14, 1952, he was united in marriage to Darlene Faye Van Meeteren in Sheldon. The couple made their home on a farm south of Sheldon. In 1958, they moved to the family farm west of Sheldon where they farmed. Ervin retired from farming in 2005 and moved into Sheldon in 2006. He passed away on Thursday, February 4, 2010 at the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa, reaching the age of 77 years, 6 months and 15 days.
Ervin was a member of the Bethel Reformed Church in Sheldon. He was a past member of the Sioux County Extension Board and Sheldon’s Farmers Co-op Board of Directors. Erv and Darlene enjoyed wintering in Texas for 11 years. While in Texas he traveled to Reynosa, Mexico, helping build homes for the less fortunate. He also helped with Habitat for Humanity in McAllen, Texas. He enjoyed “Junking” with his son, fishing, woodworking, playing cards, collecting old cars and coins. Erv just enjoyed helping people and family.
Erv leaves to cherish his memory his wife of almost 58 years, Darlene; and their three sons, Larry Ervin Verrips of Spirit Lake, Iowa; Thomas Kelly Verrips of Ankeny, Iowa; James Donald and his wife, Pat Verrips of Sheldon, Iowa; two grandchildren, Alexander and Abigail; two sisters-in-law; MaDonna Feyerabend of Sanborn, Iowa and Jan Verrips of Ashton, Iowa; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Leroy and Arnold.
