ERNEST R. WILSON
Ernest Wilson, son of Nathaniel and Stella (Hall) Wilson, was born on December 13, 1924, on the family farm near Paton, Iowa. He attended a rural grade school and graduated from Paton High School in 1942. He farmed with his brother, Warren, near Sutherland, Iowa from 1949 to 1953.
Ernest married Lora Beth Henderson of Paullina, Iowa on June 30, 1951 at the Paullina Friends Meeting House. The couple farmed near Webb, Iowa for 5 years, before moving to a farm northwest of Paullina in 1959, where they raised their family. In 1975, they moved to their present home in rural Paullina, where they retired in 1987. Ernie entered the Paullina Care Center on September 9, 2005 following a stroke.
Ernie served on the board of directors of the Northwest Iowa Farm Business Association and the O’Brien County Extension Council; he served many years on the Scattergood Friends School Committee and was active in Paullina Friends Meeting. He was an Iowa Master Swine Producer and received several awards for his soil conservation practices.
His greatest joys were his family and farming. As his physical abilities decreased, he enjoyed reading a variety of literature. Throughout his life, Ernie always loved to talk to and interact with people.
Survivors include his wife, Beth Wilson of Paullina; four children, Daniel and Lorna Wilson of Paullina; Colin and Carla Wilson of Paullina; Holly Wilson and Alan McMahon of Haverford, Pennsylvania; Brent and Penney Wilson of Ankeny, Iowa; and 16 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Nathaniel Wilson and Stella (Hall) Wilson; five brothers, Jesse Wilson, Albert Wilson, Warren Wilson, Gene Wilson, and Edward Wilson; and two sisters, Thelma McCarville and Vera Ashbaugh.
